In an intervention on the guise of helping her get over a recent breakup, Angeleno Rachel is able to convince her best friend Abby to accompany her to Azuridge, an upscale wilderness retreat, the getaway really for Abby to get over a breakup from a year ago which has led to her immersing herself in her work as a public prosecutor. The intervention is also because Azuridge is not in Abby's mentality, she in her cynical mentality seeing it as a touchy feely adult camp. It gets worse for Abby in running into Sean there, he her platonic best friend from high school in Hayward who she has not seen or spoken to in seventeen years when he stood her up without telling her himself for a long planned road trip post-graduation, she still angry about that situation. While Abby just wants to avoid Sean, they do reconnect, and while they somewhat avoid the topic of the trip, they are able to clear the air on that issue to discover that each was truly in love with the other in high school, those emotions still on the surface for both of them. Factors into what happens between the two of them in terms of a future include that trip, what has happened to each of them in the intervening seventeen years including their personal situations, Sean's unspoken reason for attending the retreat, what Abby considers her realism but what Rachel considers her cynicism, and arguably most importantly the peril they end up in together at the retreat.—Huggo
